How exhausting was filming your series, Lamin Leroy Gibba?

Born 29 April 1994 in Münster Profession Actor, screenwriter, director Education Studied acting and film at The New School in New York City Status Radically young

As a child, Lamin Leroy Gibba spent a lot of time in front of the television, but never saw characters like him in films and series. Later, he acted himself, for example in the youth group of the Deutsches Schauspielhaus Hamburg, and recognized the problem: The opportunities for a Black, queer actor in Germany are quite limited, he said in an interview with SWR (Swiss Broadcasting Corporation). He is currently in the process of changing that with his series Schwarze Früchte (Black Fruits) . He came up with the idea while studying acting in New York. He spent five years refining the script and protagonists, and the series premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in June 2024. The eight episodes have been available in the ARD media library since last fall. The series follows Lalo, played by Lamin Leroy Gibba, and his best friend Karla (Melodie Simina). They are in their mid-twenties, at once self-confident and doubtful, selfish and empathetic. The complexity of the characters has been highly praised; Schwarze Früchte was recently nominated for the Grimme Award in the fiction category. But the best feedback, Lamin Leroy Gibba told SWR, is when he hears from Black viewers, queer viewers and a wide variety of people that they identify with the characters.
