Anti-chunky boots will be everywhere this fall!

Anti-chunky boots: These elegant boots are trending for fall 2025.
Just a few years ago, Copenhagen could have been considered a kind of "chunky boot convention." Brands like Ganni and Holzweiler made sturdy-soled boots paired with flowing dresses the Danish capital's uniform. But if this season's street style images are to be believed, that era seems to be over.
After years of chunky boots dominating fall/winter boot trends, new silhouettes are taking center stage in 2025. First up are the slouchy boots , which haven't been worn since the 2000s. These boots feature cool pleats at the calves and ankles, a narrow sole, and were worn by stars like Kate Moss and Sienna Miller. The second most important style? Slim boots that fit tightly around the ankles and calves, often with a narrow heel.

Styled as a counterbalance to the exaggerated, voluminous coats at Toteme, Chloé, and Givenchy, fitted boots are a way to add a touch of elegance to fall and winter looks. They're shaping, but not quite as extreme as the jersey and Lycra sock boots introduced by Demna Gvasalia around 2017.
The so-called second-skin boots took center stage in Toteme's Fall/Winter 2025 collection, where the black, gray, and cream boots looked almost like tights and layered seamlessly under midi-length coats. At Sarah Burton's Givenchy debut, the designer paired most looks with a narrow black patent boot that sat mid-calf, lending the ensemble a seductive touch.

While this may seem at odds with the slouchy boot trend, Miuccia Prada (ever the innovative) managed to combine both in Miu Miu's Fall/Winter 2025 collection. We're talking about a pair of knee-high, purple leather boots that laced up at the calf, embellished with a buckle, and also had subtle pleats.

As for styling, we recommend avoiding over-the-knee boots and opting for a length that hits below the knee. Feel free to create a cool contrast with the rest of the look by opting for flowing and oversized pieces. In Copenhagen, for example, stylist Gabriella Karefa-Johnson balanced her baggy rugby shirt and wide denim shorts with a pair of sleek black leather boots, creating a modern silhouette.
