Several dead after flash flood in Texas
Kerrville – At least 24 people have died in a flash flood in central Texas. Officials say several children who were attending a summer camp near the Guadalupe River are still missing. Texas Lt. Governor Dan Patrick said the Guadalupe River rose by eight meters in just 45 minutes the night before. The Kerr County Sheriff had previously reported 13 deaths. The dead included both adults and children. Some bodies were found in cars swept away by the floodwaters. Around 500 rescue personnel and 14 helicopters were deployed, supported by the Texas National Guard and the U.S. Coast Guard. Freeman Martin, director of the Texas Department of Public Safety, warned of another flood. County Executive Rob Kelly described the floods as extremely devastating and deadly. Texas Governor Greg Abbott pledged the support of all available forces. In mid-June, at least ten people were killed in a flash flood in San Antonio, southeast of Kerr.
