Three major UK airports drop 100ml liquid rule this summer

With summer now in full swing, more and more people are jetting off to sunny destinations than at any other time of year, and with that, holidaymakers are being urged to check airport liquid rules before flying, as restrictions may vary across the nation.
It comes as several major airports across the country have scrapped the 100ml liquid limit thanks to advanced CT security scanners. However, while passengers travelling from certain UK airports no longer have to keep their liquids to the 100ml limit, the change has not been phased out nationwide, and so travellers must be aware of the security rules of the airport they are departing from.
In the past, passengers were required to have containers of no more than 100ml, which had to be placed inside a clear plastic bag when passing through security.

However, now those departing from London Gatwick, London Heathrow, and Birmingham airports can leave their liquids in their bags, with containers in hand luggage permitted up to two litres.
While the three UK airports have implemented the change, which is said to make the travel process easier for passengers. Airports including Stansted, Manchester, Liverpool, Glasgow and Luton still have the 100ml per container rule, despite no longer requiring liquids to be removed from bags or placed in clear plastic bags.

Travellers are also being reminded that rules abroad will likely differ from those in the UK, with many airports abroad still operating older screening systems that require liquids to be removed and placed in clear bags during security checks.
Travel experts have added that passengers should continue to check the latest guidance from both their departing and returning airports before travelling to avoid delays or having items confiscated.
Gatwick and Liverpool are among the many airports that have issued additional advice to passengers to help the security process run more smoothly. The airports recommended that passengers pack powders and food products in hold luggage where possible.
