I'm thinking about quitting the US after visiting this little-known UK town with fantastic views

A small market town in North Yorkshire has left one American woman so charmed that she is considering moving there.

Cara, a vlogger who has 75,000 subscribers to The Magic Geekdom channel on YouTube, told viewers she was left with her ‘mind blown’ after visiting the destination in northern England.

She described Knaresborough as ‘an absolute gem’, and a place she wanted to visit ‘for years’ after seeing it in a video.

Fortunately for Cara, ‘it absolutely lived up to the hype’.

‘This charming place completely stole my heart with its medieval castle ruins, fantastic cream tea in a 400-year-old tea room, and England's oldest paid tourist attraction.’

She is referring to Mother Shipton's Cave, which has been open since 1630 and is known as the birthplace of Ursula Southeil, a 16th-century prophet known for her eerie predictions.

She added: ‘By the end of the day, I was seriously considering how much those riverside houses cost…’

Arriving early in the morning, her first impression was that it was ‘a lovely, almost sleepy, quiet Yorkshire town’.

Later, she visited Knaresborough Castle, which was first built in the 12th century – a fact, the vlogger says ‘always blows my American mind’.

‘I was not expecting to have so many fantastic views,’ she added.

‘Not only can you see the surrounding countryside, there’s a great view of the viaduct and lower part of the town. It’s just really beautiful here.’

The Knaresborough Viaduct was completed in 1851, and is a striking piece of Victorian engineering. Standing around 80 feet high with four imposing arches, it connects the town to nearby Harrogate and Leeds.

Accompanied by some friends, Cara later looks at some of the ‘fantastic’ houses.

‘I’m sure they’re not cheap but they're all really magnificent-looking,’ she said.

‘I would happily take any one of these, they’re all amazing.’

Writing in the comments, @annecaunce – who calls herself a ‘Lancashire lass’ but whose father was from Yorkshire – said: ‘At least once a month, he'd drive us down the A59 across the border to breathe some good Yorkshire air and Knaresborough was one of our favourites.’

Another, @butterflygirlenergy, responded: ‘I live in Knaresborough! And it is indeed beautiful!’

The Magic Geekdom is run by Cara and Jeremy, an American couple who say they have ‘developed a love of British culture and way of life’.

They first visited the UK in 2022, enjoying it so much they have returned twice, including a six-month trip in 2023.

Previous videos on the channel saw the pair eat only British fast food for 24 hours, and try a Wetherspoons pub for the first time.
