World Cup LIVE: Scotland vs Haiti updates as FIFA confirm controversial VAR failure

A rousing rendition of Flowers of Scotland with lyrics of the famous Scottish anthem being shown on the big screen.
Scotland are in their salmon strip, this one has been built up for months after Scott McTominay's famous overhead kick.
The Tartan Army get us underway.
A reminder of the teams:
Haiti team to face Scotland: Placide, Arcus, Ade, Delcroix, Experience, Louicius, Jacques, Bellegarde, Providence, Peirrot, Isidor.

We've talked about the price of food and drink at stadium for the punters but a video has just popped up on my X feed.
Eddy Dove of ESPN Africa paid north of $50 for a press meal at the MetLife Stadium. I've been to a few press boxes in the Premier League, notably food is free and very good from what I've experienced, but the journalist picked up salad, a bottle of water, a croissant, a heat and eat meal.
The reporter recording, Osasu Obayiuwana, described it as a daylight and night time robbery, not half!
Dove hopes it is the best croissant he's ever eaten in his life. For his bank and peace of mind, so do I!
History was made as Qatar secured their first point at a World Cup with a dramatic stoppage-time equaliser from Boualem Khouki.
Switzerland's opener through Breel Embolo was controversial however after Remon Freuler appeared to be offside in the build-up to Mahmoud Abunada brought down the midfielder.
FIFA have now released a statement, it reads:
During the Qatar vs. Switzerland match in the San Francisco Bay Area, a brief technical outage prevented the onside animation graphic from being generated ahead of the penalty awarded to Switzerland in the 14th minute. The issue was quickly resolved.
The workflow of the VAR was not affected by this issue and followed the normal procedure in checking the on-field decision. The lines used by the VAR to check the position of the relevant players did not show the attacking player to be in an offside position in either of the two situations immediately before the penalty decision.

Tension and anticipation is building.
The OVO Hydro in Scotland is packed, I wonder what the feeling is there.
I was there recently for a gig and it wasn't exactly cheap for a pint of lager! Steve Clarke maintains a 4-4-2 which brought success during the warm-up matches.
Scott McKenna has been an absentee from training this week and Grant Hanley gets the nod.
Lawrence Shankland leads the line with Che Adams.

It's honours' even in the Group C opener as Brazil survive an almightly scare to draw 1-1 with Morocco.
Ismael Saibari opened the scoring after 21 minutes, a deserved lead for the African's after a fierce start.
However, Vinicius Jr levelled 11 minutes later with a great goal.
Brazil dominated large parts of the second half but they could only force routine saves for Yassine Bounou.
However, Liverpool's Alisson Becker needed to make a double save as Morocco finished strongly, as they started.

Some familiar faces in the Haiti team.
If you think this is going to be a straight forward game for Scotland, think again!
Sunderland's Wilson Isidor will lead the line for the minnows, while Wolves' Jean-Ricner Bellegarde will marshal the midfield too.
According to FIFA, it's a 4-2-4 formation. If so, we could have a cracker on our hands.

GERMANY manager Julian Nagelsmann will be facing the media for the first time in just over half-an-hour.
Naglesmann will be facing questions at the Houston Stadium ahead of is side's opening World Cup game against minnows Curacao tomorrow (SUN) lunchtime.
And it's safe to assume Nagelsmann is a man under pressure, before a ball has even been kicked.
The four-time winners are on a hiding to nothing against the smallest nation to ever reach a finals.
Losing is unthinkable, while a comfortable win will cause no ripples whatsoever.
Just to increase the heat on Nagelsmann, Germany have failed to make it out of the group stages at the last two World Cups.
So more failure is simply not an option.
Not with a certain Jurgen Klopp available and seemingly waiting in the wings to get the job most German supporters want him to get.

Scott McTominay STARTS!
The Scotland hero shrugs off a stomach bug and Andy Robertson captains.
Surely that's a huge sigh of relief from Scottish households up and down the country. The beers are flowing in Boston, who can blame them? Those £13 pints may taste just as a good now, possibly even better with a win.

Internet personality IShowSpeed has been spotted by the camera crews in New York. The streamer was spotted shaking hands with PSG owner Nasser Al-Khelaifi before having a chin-wag with Ronaldo, the Brazilian one that is.
It came just minutes after BBC's Jon Champion and Alan Shearer discussed the constant panning to celebrities and social media stars in the stands.
There was a nice moment between Speed and former England striker Peter Crouch.

Time for a drink!
The players leave the field to take on some hydration and enjoy another impromptu concert.

Watching this somewhat uninspring second half from Brazil so far, does make you think just how Joao Pedro wasn't selected for this squad after his season at Chelsea.
Matheus Cunha of Manchester United was, and Don Carlo has thrown him on looking for some inspiration at the MetLife Stadium.
Just under half hour left here and it's all locked at 1-1. Who can produce the next bit of magic?

Brazil fans turned on their team after a slow start against Morocco in their World Cup opener.
The stadium was adorned in yellow and green as Brazil fans clearly outnumbered their African opponents. But the passionate support turned hostile within 10 minutes of the game as Brazil fans feared the worst for their World Cup campaign.
While the first few minutes were goalless, Morocco seized early control of proceedings and appeared comfortable in possession. The Atlas Lions pinned Carlo Ancelotti’s team deep into their own half and controlled the opening stages.
After the Brazilian defense snuffed out their latest attack, Morocco calmly retained possession and recycled, steadily building toward another move. Their fans, encouraged by the fine start, began to cheer each pass, taunting the seemingly helpless Brazilian defenders.
A nervous start to this second half as well...

There will be two changes at half-time for Brazil, with former Liverpool star Fabinho being introduced in place of Casemiro.
In another change made by manager Carlo Ancelotti, Danilo has also entered the game in place of Roger Ibanez.
The second half has not got underway here at the MetLife Stadium.
While we wait for the second half to start, it's now less than two hours to go until Scotland's opening World Cup match gets underway.
Steve Clarke's side will take on Haiti in Foxborough, with kick-off scheduled for 2am.
Scotland have now boarded the team bus to embark on their journey to Boston Stadium for their World Cup opener.

What a breath-taking half of football. Morocco have had the better chances but Brazil are starting to pur. Ismael Saibari's magnificent finish was quickly cancelled out by Vinicius Jr's unbelieveable solo goal.
This is an open game of football - stay tuned for more updates!

This is what the best nations do! Brazil were absolutely all over the place.
However, Vinicius Jr has bailed them out with a spectacular individual strike!

Morocco have taken the lead. Ismael Saibari has scooped a fantastic finish over the top of Alisson.
Brazil simply fell asleep as a pass was sent through the heart of their defence, before Saibari found the back of the net!

Neymar isn't fit to play in Brazil's opener at this tournament. The 34-year-old has been battling a calf injury and has not yet resumed full training.
Boss Carlo Ancelotti revealed that the former Barcelona and Paris St-Germain forward is set to rejoin squad training next week, casting serious doubt over his chances of featuring in Brazil's second fixture against Haiti on June 20.
But the Selecao superstar is at the stadium to cheer on his teammates against Morocco and has been seen greeting Tom Brady and Travis Scott before kick-off.

Miroslav Klose doesn't expect to still be the World Cup's record goalscorer come the end of the 2026 edition in North America. German legend Klose set a record of 16 goals when he broke Ronaldo Nazario's previous record at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
But Messi is closing in on the record with 13, heading into this summer's tournament. While France superstar Kylian Mbappe is just one behind him on 12. And with more teams, games and knockout rounds this time, Klose accepts one of them is likely to overtake him.
He said: "I expect my record to be broken at this World Cup. This is an expanded edition, there are more matches and therefore more opportunities to score.
"Both Messi and (Kylian) Mbappe will go far, and that is absolutely fine, the record was always going to be broken eventually."

Carlo Ancelotti has taken a huge gamble on Brazil’s World Cup chances. Brazil start their campaign against Morocco on Saturday and the five-time winners are hardly among the standout favourites like France, Argentina and Spain.
That is partly because Ancelotti has gambled on Neymar’s experience and fitness, while the rest of his forward line lacks a proven centre forward. Brazil boast incredible talent in Vinicus Junior and Raphinha, but they are gambling on the potential of Endrick, Igor Thiago and Rayan.

Switzerland should have scored four or five goals. But a lack of composure has let them down badly.
Qatar have their first-ever World Cup point after a dramatic stoppage-time equaliser. They were terrible four years ago when hosting the tournament, but have now given themselves a real chance of getting out of the group stages.
Switzerland have had all the chances, but haven't made Qatar pay. Now they've been punished!
It's Qatar captain Boualem Khoukhi, up from defence, who gets above his marker and thumps a header past Gregor Kobel. A sickner for the Swiss.
The in-stadium music was still playing after the hydration break, with both sets of players looking baffled. And they weren't the only one's confused.
ITV commentator Sam Matterface said: "Not entirely sure what is happening, it has been a few minutes."
Co-commentator Lee Dixon replied: "I've got a mic, but I'm not gonna sing."
More from ITV's pundits who weren't afraid to have their say on the potential offside in the build-up to Switzerland's penalty against Qatar in the first half.
Four Members of Iran’s delegation to the World Cup have managed to win appeals against having their visas to the US rejected.
However, 11 more members of the party, which Iran called “integral” members of its national team’s backroom staff, will not be allowed to enter the US when their team plays there.
Officials in Washington said that Iran’s players had been given permission to enter the country for the World Cup but last week Iran said other staff members had been denied entry.

Gary Neville has questioned why FIFA have not shown a replay of the semi-automatic decision to prove that Switzerland were not offside in the incident which led to their penalty.
Speaking on ITV, he said: "We all think it here [that it was offside]. Everybody at home thinks it. FIFA are the host broadcaster and they have the semi-automatic decision that they can show us.
"There is a massive question over that because it is offside in my eyes until they prove me different."
