Ugly Scenes As Scrap Breaks Out At The End Of Wexford Senior Football Final

Castletown Liam Mellows would secure a second successive Wexford senior football title on Sunday, overcoming Shelmaliers in convincing fashion at Chadwicks Wexford Park.
Those two clubs have plenty of recent history, with this being the third time in the last four years that they have met in a county final. The most recent clash in the decider came back in 2023, with Shelmaliers running out as one-point winners.
However, the result would be reversed on this occasion.
Castletown were the dominant side right from the outset of the contest, finding themselves four points up inside the opening ten minutes. While Shelmaliers would battle back to level affairs soon after, they could not stop the holders from extending the lead in the second half.
In the end, Castletown would emerge victorious on a scoreline of 0-14 to 1-7 despite a consolation goal form their opponents in injury time. In the process, they became the first team to retain the Wexford senior title since Horsewood managed the feat back in 2006.

Ugly Scenes As Scrap Breaks Out At The End Of Wexford FinalConsidering the recent history between these two sides, it was perhaps no surprise to see tensions rise over the course of yesterday's final.
That ultimately resulted in some unsavoury scenes after the final whistle, with both sets of players becoming involved in a shemozzle at the end of the game.

Order would be restored soon after before Castletown were presented with the trophy.
This victory stretches their lead at the top of the Wexford roll of honour, with their 14 county title wins three more than any other club.
