Two-pointer controversy in Mayo

Hollymount Carramore will lodge an appeal after effectively being eliminated from the Mayo IFC by a two-pointer that wasn’t.
The contentions moment in Friday night’s crunch intermediate football championship round-robin clash with Kilmaine in Garrymore came in the 29th minute when Kilmaine full forward Kevin Mullin spun to fire over a right-footed point from well within the arc.
Mistakenly, the score was counted as a two-pointer and the match officially finished in a draw, 1-15 to 0-18, which was enough to secure Kilmaine’s passage to the last eight on score difference and eliminate Hollymount Carramore from the competition.
Hollymount Carramore needed to win the match to advance and as things stand their season is over.
As Mayo GAA awaits the referee's report from the controversial Group Four encounter, club chairman at St Coman's Park Tom Connelly has confirmed to Midwest Radio that they are in the process of lodging an appeal as they can produce clear video evidence that a mistake was made.
