Tipperary Big Up The Influence Of Former Munster Rugby Star In All-Ireland Win

Tipperary Big Up The Influence Of Former Munster Rugby Star In All-Ireland Win

Looking at Tipperary and their run to the All-Ireland title this year, it is one of fierce resilience.

Liam Cahill's side entered this season on the back of a very disappointing 2024 campaign, one which resulted in quite a bit of criticism within the county.

Tipp would have a promising league campaign, but they did not have it all their own way in the Munster Championship. They would finish third in the round robin, recovering from a hammering against Cork to secure a third placed finish.

They have since gone from strength to strength, capped off with a remarkable performance in this afternoon's final.

Tipperary's transformation over the last 12 months or so has been a remarkable one, with their mental fortitude a standout feature of their improvements on the pitch.

Speaking on RTÉ, Darragh McCarthy revealed the role of former Munster rugby player Cathal Sheridan in the team's success in 2025.

I suppose it's all a mind game really. If you let it get to you, you're going to be curled up in a ball there at home in bed.

Cathal Sheridan, our man, played a big part in that. I went to him for a few chats to try and sort the head out.

It's kind of a mind game there. You have to steal the mind there and just forget about it.

Sheridan spent four years in the Munster first team squad, only for his career to be cut short by injury.

He has since entered the field of sports psychology, earning a degree in UL after his retirement from rugby. The Sligo native would go on to return to Munster in a role in his new profession, also working with Tipperary in recent times.

Liam Cahill would also praise Sheridan for his influence on the side after the win over Cork.

"My mother has probably swallowed her rosary beads and my father has probably the cows milked three times with nervousness. I'm so thrilled for everybody."

Tipperary manager Liam Cahill said he never doubted his players, going from a low ebb to glory. #sundaygame pic.twitter.com/Bvsj43cH9o
