Report: Limerick Star Kyle Hayes Hospitalised After High Challenge In Limerick SHC

Five time All-Star and Limerick star Kyle Hayes was hospitalised this weekend after a high challenge in the Limerick SHC.
Hayes, who has five senior All-Irelands to his name, was lining out for his club Kildimo-Pallaskenry as they took on Newcastle West in the second round of the Limerick Senior Hurling Championship.
However, according to reports from John Fogarty of the Irish Examiner, just seventeen minutes into the clash, Hayes suffered a high challenge from Newcastle West fullback Maurice Murphy, which saw play stopped for five minutes and left Hayes in visible pain on the floor.
After being helped to his feet, Hayes was replaced for the remainder of the game, and referee Johnny Murphy served Maurice Murphy with a red card.
Despite the one-man advantage, Hayes' Kildimo-Pallaskenry had to settle for a share of the spoils, with fourteen-man Newcastle West managing to match their 2-16.

However, the Limerick back was hospitalised with a concussion following the game, and a subsequent MRI scan saw him placed in a neck brace.
Speaking to the Limerick Leader, one supporter who was at the game described the incident as 'nasty' and said 'there was a lot of worry' in the ground.
It looked very serious at the time and there was a lot of worry in the grounds. It looked nasty. If it was someone else I’m not sure if they would have been able to get to their feet like Kyle did. Kyle being Kyle, tough out, he got up on his feet again
While the extent of the injury is unknown, it did render Hayes unable to attend the wedding of his fellow Limerick teammate Diarmuid Byrnes, which took place in Killarney on Saturday night.
It also looks unlikely that Hayes will be available for the Kildimo-Pallanskenry footballers for whom he has been playing midfield, this Friday night, when they take on the same side in the same venue as the hurlers.
Friday's draw means Kildimo-Pallanskenry currently sit on three points, in group two of the Limerick Senior Hurling Championship. They're next clash comes on Friday, the 22nd of August, when they'll meet Adare in Sean Finn Park.
Whether Hayes will be available for that clash or not is still to be seen.
