Kingdom power past Rebels with superb second-half display

Kerry produced the goods in the second-half to coast past Cork towards a 1-28 to 0-20 victory at SuperValu Pairc Ui Chaoimh this evening.
Jack O’Connor’s men picked up their second win the All-Ireland senior football championship group stage, with talisman David Clifford once again leading the way for them after finishing with a personal tally of 1-8.
Clifford netted an early goal for the Munster champions but it was the home side led at the end of the first-half, with points from Colm O’Callaghan (2), Chris Og Jones and Mark Cronin (free) being backed up by a late Brian Hurley two-pointer to send the Rebels in with a 0-13 to 1-7 advantage at the interval.

Another Cronin free upped the lead to four for John Cleary’s men early in the resumption before the Kingdom got motoring with a Clifford two-pointer and a Sean O’Shea free would be backed up by a Killian Spillane point for them to hit the front.
The hosts moved ahead again through Hurley ahead of their neighbours hitting another gear that saw the scores of Spillane, Clifford and O’Shea eventually putting them eight to the good with 15 minutes left to play.
Jones (free) ended an 11-minute scoring drought for Cork who go on to see a Cronin penalty saved by Shane Ryan, who also blocked the follow up, as a Tony Brosnan two-pointer and points via Tom O’Sullivan and Dylan Geaney rounded off the visitors’ tally.
