Éire Óg end three-and-a-half decade wait for Clare SHC glory

Éire Óg Ennis clinched their first Clare senior hurling championship title since 1990 with a 0-17 to 0-12 win against Clooney-Quin at Zimmer Biomet Páirc Chíosóg this afternoon.
The town side had enjoyed the better opening quarter to this county decider, with the points of Marco Cleary, Oran Cahill and Shane O’Donnell helping them to open up a 0-8 to 0-3 lead by the 13th minute.
A brace of Peter Duggan points along with a single from Darragh McNamara marked a decent response from Clooney-Quin, with John Conneally’s point serving to cut their deficit to the minimum (0-9 to 0-8) come the interval.
🎯 Marco Cleary nails his effort and puts @CLGEireOgInis 5 points clear.

David Reidy sailed over from 65 metres to land the first score of the second-half for Éire Óg and Cleary would push them back into a three-point lead in the 40th minute.
Reidy raised another white flag from distance a minute later and indications were that the coveted Canon Hamilton Cup was headed to Ennis after Callum Hassett’s points was outweighed by back-to-back scores from Reidy and Cleary which flew over Clooney-Quin’s crossbar.
The trailers would trim their arrears down to four again with Duggan to the fore for them, but Éire Óg came up with a big finish that saw O’Donnell and Reidy landing points to put a seal on their club’s first SHC success in 35 years.
