Trump’s UN Speech Was Insulting and Stupid

God, if only it had been the golden escalator that failed back in 2015, we all might have been spared the ongoing calamity.

However, it was the escalator in the United Nations building that failed on Tuesday that got our president peevish. I remembered the line from the late Mitch Hedberg that he loved escalators because, when they broke down, they became ... stairs. Our president? Stairs? Please.

Then his teleprompter went hinky, and that made him even more irritated. As far as his speech goes, well, he insulted the UN, most of our allies, all of Europe, and, of course, common sense. He went three times as long as his allotted time, but once you’ve decided the Constitution is a list of superannuated suggestions, what do you care about the UN and its time constraints?

Basically, the speech was crude and stupid and greeted with an eight-kiloton silence. It has been noted that nobody laughed at him this time around. The world has realized that the threat he poses to the civil order isn’t funny anymore. Nobody laughed at his testimony to his own greatness. Nobody laughed when he called the UN ingrates about the famous “seven wars” he’d personally stopped. Nobody laughed when he called the climate crisis “the greatest con job” in the history of the world. The speech was insulting. In sum:

I’m telling you that if you don’t get away from the “green energy” scam, your country is going to fail. If you don’t stop people that you’ve never seen before that you have nothing in common with your country is going to fail. I love the people of Europe, and I hate to see it being devastated by energy and immigration. ... This double-tailed monster destroys everything in its wake, and they cannot let that happen any longer.

The “double-tailed monster” bit is pure secular apocalypticism. That’s always a tough room.
