Lorraine Kelly slams 'bizarre' Alec Baldwin's controversial film after tragic death

Lorraine Kelly has delivered her brutal verdict on Alec Baldwin's upcoming film Rust, with the release proving controversial after the accidental death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on set. In October 2021, Halyna was killed after Alec accidentally fired a prop gun which also left director Joel Souza injured.
Speaking about the film, Lorraine told entertainment correspondent Ross King: "I didn't think this movie would see the light of day...personally, I don't want to see it." He replied: "I was like you, I thought the film was never going to get made. Interestingly enough, it's going to come out May 2 in theatres, so it's not one of those ones where they can hide it away on a streamer.
"When you see the trailer, will there be any reference, will they lean into the tragedy? There's an interesting line in there where Alec Baldwin's character says, 'Some things in life you just can't get back.' They're obviously leaning into it as well."
Lorraine later spoke about how the drama surrounding the film is captured in Alec Baldwin's new reality show. "He's gone on to do this insane reality show with his wife who we all know was pretending to be Spanish at one point," she said. "You couldn't make it up - it's bizarre."
After the shooting, Alec was charged with involuntary manslaughter - however, the charges were dismissed in 2023 when new evidence came to light. In Alec and Hilaria's reality show The Baldwins, Hilaria revealed that she received suicidal texts from Alec in the aftermath of the shooting.
"I found these text messages the other day, between us, you know, the day after. And you know, he said he wanted to kill himself," she said. "He has survivor's guilt. You're involved in this thing that nobody could even possibly imagine. And so it goes back to that day. He wishes it were him. He would change places in a second. This has affected his health, and his mental health tremendously.
"The past few years, all of the sudden he started having heart problems. He's been hospitalized multiple times. He's fainted... everybody's just screaming, I'm going, I'm on top, and I'm shaking him. It's hard sometimes. But hopefully we're in the hardest, but tail end of it."
