ITV viewers beg for return of major talent show as Dancing on Ice axed

ITV fans have been begging for the channel to bring back a fan-favourite show after Dancing On Ice was axed. ITV bosses have recently confirmed that the ice skating competition, which first aired in 2006, is to end after viewing figures dwindled to below three million for the last series.
And the confirmation that the show is being axed after a 19-year run means that former This Morning host Holly Willoughby no longer has any programmes with ITV, for the first time since 2004 when she started on CITV’s Ministry of Mayhem. "Following another successful series, DOI will now be rested in 2026 with no current plans for another series. We would like to thank all of the cast and crew who have worked on the show since 2006," ITV said in a statement.

They said: "Since ITV loves reviving other people’s shows, this is an official petition for them to replace this with Sky’s best live show ever… GOT TO DANCE. And I want Davina and Kimberly involved, AND the dance domes that tour the country. Do it @ITV."
One fan agreed and said: "Been saying it for years. It needs to happen," while one posted: "Got to Dance was such a good format!" Got To Dance was a dance competition broadcast on Sky One from 2009 to 2014.
Auditions for the contest were held in specially built "Dance Domes" and were open to all dance acts of any age, style or size. The only rule was that those auditioning must be of an amateur level.

It was hosted by Davinca McCall, with Diversity star Ashley Banjo and Pussycat Dolls' Kimberly Wyatt as judges. In the first three series, Adam Garcia was a judge but was soon replaced by JLS star Aston Merrygold.
Meanwhile, Dancing On Ice judges Torvill and Dean had already announced they are hanging up their skates after the final dates of their tour in May.
The most recent final, won by Coronation Street star Sam Aston, managed to pull in just 2.7 million viewers – a staggering decline from the viewing figures it once had with an estimated 12 million tuning in during previous years.
Earlier this week, Christopher Dean dropped a major hint that the show was coming to an end.
Speaking about his and Jayne's Our Last Dance tour, he said: "After the tour finishes in Nottingham, we'll be hanging up the skates as Torvill and Dean. Will it be a sad moment? Of course!
"We climbed up the mountain, saw the beautiful views, won a few medals and we're able to bow out on our terms. The journey feels complete."
It comes after channel insiders told the Mirror that the Sunday night series was set to be dropped after sinking to its lowest ever ratings - a far cry from its heyday when 12million tuned in.
