Coronation Street star quits after five years amid mass walkout

Coronation Street star quits after five years amid mass walkout

Coronation Street has lost yet another cast member as Adam Hussain, who has played Aadi Alahan since 2020, has decided to leave the show. The announcement comes amidst a string of departures from the ITV soap, which are said to be caused by the show's ongoing financial struggles.

Adam, 24, has been a part of the Coronation Street cast ever since he took over the role of Dev Alahan’s son from Zennon Ditchett. However, he has reportedly been dissatisfied with his character's recent lack of action, which led him to quit the cobbles for good. A source told the Sun: "He’s telling people he’s quit, not because he’s had enough of the show but his character hasn't had any decent storylines for ages. He's had loads of new opportunities coming his way so he already feels like he's made the right decision."

The soap star has already been working on new projects, including the upcoming film Spice For Life that he is starring in alongside Hollyoaks actress Kirsty-Leigh Porter.

He recently shared a behind the scenes snap from the set, captioning it: "Was great working with these lot."

Speculation about his departure from Coronation Street first started last summer when Adam announced that he was working on a new film called Denial, which is about men's mental health. At the time, fans questioned whether his new role meant his time on the cobbles was coming to an end.

Adam's departure is the latest in a wave of exits that has shaken Coronation Street. Just last month soap veteran Sue Cleaver, who played Eileen Grimshaw for 25 years, filmed her final scenes. They are set to air in the coming months.

Meanwhile Colson Smith, who has been the face of Craig Tinker for 14 years, has been axed by show bosses. He was informed of the decision last summer and is set to leave later this year.

Other recent exits include Sue Devaney (Debbie Webster), Charlotte Jordan (Daisy Midgeley), Shelley King (Yasmeen Metcalfe), and Paddy Bever (Max Turner). They have all announced their departures from the soap in recent months.

Two beloved characters will also be leaving the series for a shorter period of time. Lucy Fallon (Bethany Platt) has announced that she will be going on maternity leave, while Maureen Lipman (Evelyn Plummer) is stepping away from the cobbles for a year.
