Why Taylor Swift Won’t Be at the AMAs Despite 8 Nominations

On Monday, the American Music Awards honored artists across the industry. Among the nominees, Taylor Swift stood out with eight nominations, including in the Artist of the Year and Best Female Pop Artist categories, with her 2025 album The Life of a Showgirl up for Album of the Year and Best Pop Album. Her track “Fate of Ophelia” nominated for Best Pop Song, Song of the Year, and Best Music Video, and her song “Elizabeth Taylor” appearing in the new category Song of the Summer.

However, the pop star was not at the ceremony held at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. Swift has been spending time in New York City with her fiancé, Travis Kelce, attending a wedding and several adorable dinner dates. The couple is reportedly preparing for their upcoming wedding after getting engaged in August 2025. They have kept plans for the ceremony under wraps, but in September of last year, Swift said she wanted to have a destination wedding.

“You would think that I would’ve been the type of person who would've obsessed over the idea of a wedding my whole life,” she said. “But I actually never thought about what I would ever do… until I met the person.”

In addition to having a lot on their plate, the couple was traveling over the weekend ahead of the ceremony. They were seen on Saturday at the Cavs vs. Knicks game in Cleveland.

The NFL star is a huge fan of the Cavs, having been raised in Ohio. The Knicks ultimately won the game, but the adorable couple enjoyed a sweet date night that included a little PDA.
