Ariana Grande and Ethan Slater Quietly Split Months Ago—and Sources Just Revealed What Happened

THE RUNDOWN
- Ariana Grande and Ethan Slater quietly broke up “several months” ago, sources told TMZ and People.
- Grande is “doing great,” an insider said, detailing how she and Slater came to the decision after “lots of time.”
- Sources also addressed whether fans can expect Grande to explore their relationship and split in her upcoming album.
Ariana Grande has been quietly single for some time—but it was a decision that she and her ex-boyfriend, actor Ethan Slater, carefully came to after over two years together. Sources told TMZ and People that the two stars broke up “several months” ago.
Insiders explained to TMZ that the two ended things on good terms and “still remain friends and are very supportive of one another,” the outlet wrote. “We’re told they gave the breakup careful consideration but ultimately decided to end the romantic relationship.”
A source gave People similar intel, saying, “It’s amicable; they gave lots of time and careful consideration and decided to go their separate ways. They are still friends and very supportive of one another. They have been quietly broken up for several months.”
People’s insider added that Grande, who just kicked off her Eternal Sunshine Tour, is “doing great” and is focused on her concerts.
TMZ’s sources, meanwhile, shared that Grande’s upcoming album, petal, isn’t about her split with Slater or their relationship.
Grande and Slater haven’t been out together recently, though Grande posted a rare public tribute to the actor in March as he finished his off-Broadway show Marcel on the Train’s run.
They genuinely remain supportive of each other to this day, with Slater liking Grande’s Instagram she shared yesterday with tour photos.

Reports of Grande and Slater’s relationship first broke in July 2023. They kept their romance mostly private and purposely avoided posing as a couple during Wicked: For Good’s press tour this past fall.
In September 2025, after Grande attended the MTV VMAs on her own, a source offered a rare update on their relationship, telling Entertainment Tonight, “Ariana and Ethan are still together and very happy with each other. They just enjoy keeping their private life private.” The insider added, “Ethan and Ariana support each other no matter what.”
Months later, in November 2025, multiple sources close to Grande and Slater told TMZ that they chose not to put their relationship on display during the Wicked press tour because they wanted “the focus to be on their movie and not their private lives,” adding that they are “just private people.”
Grande did offer rare comments on Slater in a September 2024 Vanity Fair interview. She said of him, “No one on this earth tries harder or spreads themselves thinner to be there for the people that he loves and cares about. There is no one on this earth with a better heart.”
