London Heathrow 'engine failure' LIVE: Plane carrying 311 makes emergency landing

A plane carrying more than 300 people has been forced to make an emergency landing after suffering an "engine failure".
The Air China Boeing 777-39L(ER) had set off from London Heathrow but was forced to divert to Nizhnevartovsk in Siberia after experiencing technical difficulties.
It's currently unknown whether there were any British citizens aboard the plane.

After the war broke out in Ukraine, the UK Government implemented a ban on aircraft travelling between the UK and Russia.
A UK Parliament statement explaining the ban reads: "There is currently a prohibition on any aircraft flying to and from Russian aerodromes from using UK airspace.
"This prohibition was implemented on 5 April 2022 under the Air Navigation (Restriction of Flying) (Russian Aircraft) Regulations 2022 (the 'RoF')."

The pilot is said to have chosen the remote Russian oil city due to weather conditions.
The weather in Nizhnevartovsk was said to have been favourable for a landing after the plane ran into technical issues while flying over Russian airspace.
Though the plane landed normally, it did so using one engine, according to BAZA.

An eyewitness said airport staff were stunned over the the arrival of the plane, which had flown in from London Heathrow.
They told Russian outlet, BAZA: “Airport services were in awe of the unexpected guest: it’s not every year that such a plane from Great Britain arrives in Nizhnevartovsk."

Clips have emerged of the huge jet touching down in the city, which is rarely visited by British aircraft.
The plane left heathrow at 10.43pm last night. The pilot experienced difficulties over Russian airspace before diverting the plane.
