Alleged theft in Bursa fire disaster: Citizens beat and kicked
As a forest fire that began in the Gürsu district of Bursa spread across a large area, many citizens rushed to the area to help. Allegations that a stranger had committed a theft in the village of Karahıdır caused chaos. The alleged thief became a target of the crowd. The suspect, who was beaten and punched by bystanders, was narrowly saved from being lynched by gendarmerie officers who arrived at the scene. The moment was captured on mobile phone cameras. Gendarmerie officers barely managed to remove the man from the scene after he was about to be lynched with punches and kicks.
The suspect was taken into custody and an investigation was launched into the incident.
