Former Fenerbahçe manager Jose Mourinho is preparing to become the new manager of Portuguese team Benfica .
Benfica parted ways with manager Bruno Large after their 3-2 home defeat to Azerbaijani team Qarabağ in the Champions League.
Following Bruno Large's departure, Jose Mourinho is the leading name to take over as Benfica manager.
The club announced on its official website that negotiations have begun with Jose Mourinho.
Mourinho also made statements to the Portuguese press.
Answering a question about becoming the manager of Portuguese team Benfica, Mourinho stated that he was asked whether he was interested in Benfica before boarding the plane, and he replied, "Yes, I would be interested."
The 62-year-old manager, who stated that his return to Benfica would not be a "career celebration", said: "Benfica's management officially asked me if I was interested and said I would be happy to talk to people when I return to Portugal. If I return to Benfica, it will not be a career celebration, nor will it be a return home after 25 years."
