Bayer Leverkusen coach Xabi Alonso , whose name has been linked with Real Madrid for a while, announced that he will leave the German team at the end of the season.
The 43-year-old Spanish coach spoke at a press conference before the Bayer Leverkusen-Borussia Dortmund match to be played this weekend in the Bundesliga.
Alonso has announced that he will leave Leverkusen at the end of the season, saying: "It is time to say that these are your last games at Bayer."
Xabi Alonso is expected to sign a deal with Real Madrid to become the team's new coach.
Leverkusen, under Alonso, finished second in the Bundesliga this season behind Bayern Munich, while they finished the league stage of the Champions League in sixth place and were eliminated by Bayern Munich in the last 16.
Last season, Alonso's Bayer Leverkusen became undefeated Bundesliga champions, won the German Cup and reached the final of the UEFA Europa League.
