Türkiye's digital backbone: Türk Telekom's fiber infrastructure

Türk Telekom CEO Ümit Önal said, “With the motto of high-speed access for everyone, we continue to build fiber networks that extend from the east to the west, from the south to the north, to every corner of our country’s 81 provinces. Our determined and consistent work in this regard is also turning into a concrete indicator in international reports. According to the latest report by the FTTH Council Europe, Turkey ranked among the 5 fastest growing markets in Europe in terms of fiber infrastructure. Our country exceeded the European average of 74.6 percent with a coverage rate of 76.9 percent in FTTH/B (fiber to the home/building) access. Our aim is to build a more connected, smarter, more secure and accessible digital world for everyone.”

Türk Telekom, which continues its fiber infrastructure activities all around Türkiye for the construction of the digital future, continues its work to provide accessible high-speed internet for everyone. Türk Telekom, which has knitted 81 provinces of Türkiye with end-to-end fiber networks, has signed an experience study covering 7 provinces in 7 regions. Türk Telekom CEO Ümit Önal met with journalists from Adana, Çanakkale, İzmir, Mardin, Nevşehir, Trabzon and Van in an online meeting from Türkiye's largest Network Management Center (SMC) located in Türk Telekom General Directorate in Ankara.

Türk Telekom CEO Ümit Önal said, “We are covering every corner of Türkiye, from the easternmost to the westernmost, from the southernmost to the northernmost, with fiber networks in order to provide accessible high-speed internet for everyone. We are providing fiber to streets, buildings and homes in all provinces of Türkiye. We are providing the infrastructure for 5G and beyond technologies with our fiber network works that cover Türkiye from end to end. As of the first quarter of 2025, our fiber network length reached 482 thousand km, while fiber home coverage increased to 33.2 million. The successful results we have achieved are also turning into a concrete indicator in international reports. According to the latest report published by FTTH Council Europe on this subject, Turkey has taken its place among the 5 fastest growing markets in Europe in terms of fiber infrastructure. The report revealed that we are above the European average of 74.6 percent with a coverage rate of 76.9 percent in FTTH/B (Fiber to the Home/Building) access. In addition, as of the date of the report, in the last twelve months, While the number of FTTH/B subscribers increased by 1.2 million, it is a great pride for us that 0.9 million of this increase was provided by Türk Telekom alone. Beyond being a telecommunications company, we continue our activities and investments without slowing down as a technology company leading Türkiye's digital transformation. With our innovative vision and technological know-how, we are undertaking works that accelerate digital transformation in every corner of Türkiye. We have the infrastructure capacity to provide speeds exceeding 358 Mbps on average throughout Turkey. We provide 1 Gbps access speed to more than 9 million households. We demonstrated how we knit Türkiye's digital backbone in 7 provinces in 7 regions by testing our speed, coverage and infrastructure power on-site with live connections," he said.

Reminding that the fixed internet privilege renewal process has reached its final stage, Önal said, “We are not after creating a public opinion on this issue, we never have been. We have applied for the fixed internet privilege renewal within the legal period. We are managing the process by working with the necessary authorities and relevant Ministries. We have now reached the final stage here. As the founder, developer and operator of the fixed internet infrastructure in Türkiye during the privilege period, history already imposes this mission on us. As Türk Telekom, there is a fact that we have been expressing for years: Our infrastructure is Türkiye's infrastructure. We offer our fiber investments to the service of our country all around our country, from the west to the east, from the north to the south. While building the digital future of our country, we reach not only the centers of the big cities, but also the most remote corners. We are at the point that connects Türkiye to the world. We do all these with our fiber investments.
