In the tests conducted at the "Darıca New Generation Organomineral Technological System Soilless Agriculture R&D Production Greenhouse", which was developed by the Darıca District Governorship in cooperation with Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality, Darıca Municipality and Gebze Technical University (GTÜ), success was achieved in production with volcanic slag, which was determined to be harmless to human and plant health.

Within the scope of the project, tomatoes grown on a one-acre area where long-lasting and economical slag brought from Niğde and Aksaray was used instead of the imported coconut crop "cocopeat" were harvested 3 times this year.

Lettuce, strawberries and blueberries collected from the greenhouse along with tomatoes will be distributed free of charge to those in need in the region through the Darıca District Governorship Social Assistance and Solidarity Foundation.
