The first block of the national assault boat has been laid down: Türkiye is building its own assault boat.

STM, Türkiye's national engineering force at sea, has achieved another significant milestone in Turkish maritime history. The first block produced in the National Attack Boat Project, designed by STM and led by the Presidency of Defense Industries (SSB) for the Turkish Naval Forces Command, with STM as prime contractor, was laid down at a ceremony held at the Istanbul Maritime Shipyard, where the ship will be built. The "block-laying" ceremony, considered a critical milestone in shipbuilding, officially marks the beginning of the construction process with the placement of the first section of the ship's hull.
Güleryüz: Türkiye Now Has the Ability to Design Its Own National Attack Boat
STM General Manager Özgür Güleryüz stated that another significant milestone has been crossed in Türkiye's journey toward independent defense at sea, saying, "Following the initial sheet metal cutting process, we have laid down the first block of our National Attack Craft, whose design was entirely undertaken by STM engineers. This project is not only the production of a new platform; it also symbolizes Türkiye's rise to a position of being able to design and build its own attack craft. With its unique design, high rate of domestic production, modern weapon systems, and superior maritime capabilities, our National Attack Craft will strengthen our deterrent in the Blue Homeland."
The Historical Journey of the National Fast Attack Boat
A contract was signed between the SSB and STM for the construction of the first assault boat for the National Attack Boat Project on September 9, 2024. Construction of the national assault boat began in 2025, and the first sheet metal cutting was carried out on July 8, 2025. STM first unveiled Türkiye's National Attack Boat model at the International Defense Industry Fair (IDEF-2025) on July 22, 2025.
Executing Missions in Shallow Waters with Long-Range Guided Missiles
In surface warfare missions, the National Attack Craft will be capable of deploying in standby and concealment positions, making detection and identification difficult for the enemy, launching attacks with long-range guided missiles, and conducting coordinated attacks with frigates and helicopters when necessary. The ship will be equipped with adequate air defense systems to ensure its survivability and will possess high speed and maneuverability. The aim is to utilize domestic resources to the maximum extent possible in the construction activities, including the design of the ship, and the procurement of equipment. The National Attack Craft, which stands out with its shallow water operational capabilities, is equipped with a low radar cross-section, the ability to operate and fire in challenging sea conditions at full load displacement.
