The laboratory in Helsinki employs more than 25 professionals, including 9 PhDs, who specialize in five main fields: medicine, physiology, artificial intelligence, machine learning, and software engineering. The team aims to develop meaningful and actionable algorithms forwearable devices by interpreting complex physiological data.

REAL WORLD SCENARIOS
The laboratory has five main testing areas that cover more than 20 sports and can monitor more than 200 physiological and biomechanical indicators. These areas provide a platform for technological research on sports and fitness algorithms . Some of the notable features of the facility are:
- Countercurrent Swimming Pool: A professional pool where water flow rate, temperature and quality can be controlled to evaluate swimmers' performance. In this pool, swimmers' technical efficiency can be measured and their metabolic rates can be analyzed.
- Advanced Ski Simulator: A simulator designed for skiing with an "infinite slope" feature. This simulator can detect muscle imbalances and fatigue thresholds in complex sports such as slalom and snowboarding.
- Multi-Function Treadmill: Able to reach speeds of up to 50 km/h and simulating real-world routes with GPS data, this treadmill measures ground reaction forces and collects critical data such as stride speed, stride length, flight time and left-right balance, analyzing running economy and potential injury risks.
The research conducted in the laboratory forms the basis for the algorithms integrated into Huawei’s wearable products. In other words, the aim is to integrate these health and technology developments into daily life through smartwatches.

Huawei is also conducting special research to understand the exercise needs of wheelchair users, and plans to tailor features such as "Inactivity Reminder" and "Activity Rings" in future smart wearable technologies to the specific needs of these disabled individuals.
