AirPods' live translation feature will not be available in Europe

Apple announced that it will not be offering the Live Translation feature, introduced with iOS 26 and one of the highlight features of the AirPods Pro 3, in the European Union for now. The company didn't provide a reason for this, but it's thought the decision may be related to the EU's strict regulations on artificial intelligence and privacy. The feature will work for users outside the EU, but users within the EU who also have an Apple account registered to the European region won't be able to use it.
NATURAL COMMUNICATION WITH LIVE TRANSLATIONWith Live Translate, users can naturally communicate with people speaking different languages through AirPods. If the other party is also using AirPods, the conversation is instantly translated; if no headphones are used, the translation is transmitted either verbally or textually on the iPhone screen. English, French, German, Portuguese (Brazil), and Spanish are currently supported. Support for Italian, Japanese, Korean, and Chinese will be added later in 2025. Live Translate is available with Apple Intelligence running on iPhone 15 and later, and will be active on AirPods Pro 3, AirPods Pro 2, and AirPods 4. The feature will be available with the release of iOS 26 on September 15.
