Parliamentary average is high

The Institute for Social Studies noted that the average age of Turkish parliamentarians is 19 years older than the average age of the population as a whole. The Institute reported that this difference is 5 years older than the European Union average.
According to a statement from the institute, the average age of the population in Turkey is 34, while the average age of the Turkish Grand National Assembly is 53 as of 2024. With a 19-year age difference, Turkey ranks second among European countries in terms of age representation.
To assess Türkiye's demographic representation, the Institute also published the average age of the five major parties represented in the Turkish Grand National Assembly as follows: İYİ Party 55.9, MHP 54.9, CHP 54.3, AKP 52.7, and DEM Party 48.4. It was noted that the oldest member of Parliament is MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli.
