AKP President Erdoğan went to New York, USA , to attend the 80th United Nations (UN) General Assembly and hold various meetings.
As part of the visit, Erdoğan also held some meetings at the Turkish House.
According to the news on halktv.com.tr, during Erdoğan's visit, a photo titled "Hope", prepared by the March 19 Platform, featuring CHP Chairman Özgür Özel and the arrested Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu , was displayed on the giant screen in Times Square , one of New York's busiest spots.
PROTEST IN FRONT OF EMBASSY IN WASHINGTONMeanwhile, members of the March 19 Platform, formed by Turks living in the US to protest the unlawful proceedings that began with the trial of the imprisoned Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor and CHP presidential candidate Ekrem İmamoğlu, held a press conference in front of the Embassy of the Republic of Turkey in Washington, D.C.
In a statement greeting the Family Solidarity Network, which meets every Friday in Saraçhane, it was said, “Even though we are abroad, our responsibility to democracy is heavy.”
The freedom of the imprisoned mayors was demanded as part of the protest, where banners reading “Rights, law, justice” and “There are no trustees in democracies” were carried.
