They light the stove in July: The temperature in the city center is 35 degrees

The family, who raises livestock in a tent in the area at an altitude of 1,900 meters and 25 kilometers from the city center, uses a stove to keep warm against sudden cold temperatures at night.

On Ahır Mountain, where the highland climate prevails, temperatures can exceed 30 degrees Celsius during the day and drop below 10 degrees Celsius at night. For this reason, the family living in tents sometimes seeks shade in the midday heat and warms themselves by the stove at night.

The family, who make their living from livestock farming, graze their goats and sheep throughout the summer to produce products such as milk, cheese, and yogurt. Struggling to meet their basic needs in the region, where access is difficult, the family will remain in the mountains until winter.

Emine Demircik, a local resident, said, "While everyone else can't stand the 40-50 degree heat, we live a winter lifestyle. We're involved in animal husbandry here. We have a natural refrigerator underground, where we store our produce. The stove is nice in the summer, and we make our tea on it. You can get to the city center in half an hour, but because we're at the top, it gets cold. We light the stove in the summer."
