Unconscious sports activities increase the risk of heart attack

Günay stated that the main factors that cause heart attacks are genetic predisposition, poor nutrition, inactivity and smoking, and that doing sports without preparation can accelerate this process, causing plaques in the heart vessels to rupture and a sudden heart attack.

Specialist Dr. Günay, who stated that they witnessed three different young patients having heart attacks after indoor football matches in the last year, stated that one of them was 19 years old and said, “A patient of ours came the other day. He has chest pain, but when we delve deeper into the story, we find out that he played an indoor football match the day before. After that, his pain becomes smaller and increases the next day. When he goes to the emergency room, we detect something related to a heart attack. After that, we took the patient for emergency angiography. In the angiography, we found that there was a 100% blockage in one of the patient's heart vessels. There was a clot there, after the necessary intervention, the patient's chest pain went away and he immediately felt better. After the procedure, we took him to intensive care. We had a few days of follow-up during this process. After the follow-up, we discharged the patient with recovery.”

“Sports should be done consciously”

Günay emphasized that sports are important for health but pose serious risks when done unconsciously, and made the following statements:

“Intense exercises such as indoor football can cause sudden heart attacks in individuals with underlying heart disease, hypertension, high cholesterol or family history. Therefore, a heart examination should be performed before activities such as indoor football. Otherwise, the person may lose their life before even reaching the hospital.”

Günay also stated that regular exercise, a balanced diet, avoiding smoking and a sedentary lifestyle are necessary for a healthy life, and added that heart diseases are not only specific to the elderly, but their frequency is also increasing in young people.

Saying, "Let's do sports, but let's do them wisely," Specialist Dr. Günay called on young people in particular to be more careful about this issue.
