One person died after being poisoned by counterfeit alcohol in Iran

Speaking to the Iranian Students News Agency (ISNA), Dezful Ganjaviyan Hospital Chief Physician Dr. Mohammad Ali Şefiiniya gave information on the issue.
"One of the 31 people poisoned by counterfeit alcohol died. Five people were treated in intensive care," Şefiiniya said.
The Iranian official noted that 7 of the poisoned people were on dialysis.
In Iran, where the sale and consumption of alcohol is prohibited for Muslim citizens, alcoholic beverages can be smuggled into the country and are also produced in some homes and under-the-table workshops.
According to Iranian law, those who produce, buy or sell alcoholic beverages are punished with imprisonment and flogging.
