Ministry of Health: 3.7 million people are above 'normal' weight range

According to the statement made by the Ministry; In the 7th week of the 'Learn Your Ideal Weight, Live Healthy' campaign covering June 21-27, 2025, the participation record was renewed. A total of 1 million 336 thousand 589 people, 628 thousand 161 of whom were male and 708 thousand 428 of whom were female, had their height and weight measured. As a result of the measurements, the body mass index of the people participating in the campaign was determined. In the analysis made based on the data, it was seen that 6.7 percent of the 1 million 336 thousand 589 people participating in the campaign were 'underweight', 32.9 percent were 'normal', 35.4 percent were 'overweight' and 25 percent were within the 'obese' limits.

807,705 PEOPLE WERE REFERRED TO HEALTH INSTITUTIONS

A total of 807,705 people, 429,202 of whom were women and 378,503 of whom were men, whose body mass index was calculated to be above the 'normal' weight range, were directed to primary health care institutions to receive free nutrition and physical activity counseling services in line with the information provided and their own preferences. The data obtained revealed that the 'overweight' rate in men, at 40.3 percent, was higher than the 'overweight' rate in women, at 30.9 percent; and the 'obesity' rate in women, at 30.4 percent, exceeded the 'obesity' rate in men, at 21.5 percent.
