Healthcare is on sale

Due to the health policies implemented by the AKP, citizens have been confined to private hospitals for a long time. Due to this situation, health has been transformed into a commodity that can be bought and sold rather than a fundamental right. In this case, private hospitals or polyclinics also act like businesses. This situation is also reflected in the advertisements of real estate websites. These websites include hospitals that are up for sale or subleased.

One agency in particular posted ads for about 30 hospitals , polyclinics or medical centers, health centers, etc. on a well-known real estate website. Almost none of the ads given by this agency provided any details. In all ads, only phrases such as “All featured units are available. You can call for detailed information” were used. The agency has different ads titled “Hospital for sale elite location”, “Active Hospital for Sale on the Anatolian Side”, “Hospital for sale on the Anatolian Side”. Their prices go up to 495 million TL.

There are also advertisements placed directly by the owner, apart from the agency. In an advertisement that uses the phrase “55-bed, 18-staff hospital”, information is provided about the specialists in the field of the hospital in Istanbul. Again, in an advertisement for a dental clinic sold in Istanbul, it is stated that “In a detached 6-storey building, actively operating for 3 years, with a 6-unit infrastructure, 3 units are still active. On the main street, with heavy vehicle and pedestrian traffic, in a building with glass curtain walls, with a reasonable rent. Easy access to S. Gökçen, luxury hotels and public transportation.”

The ad for a dental clinic for sale in Beşiktaş, Istanbul is quite detailed. The ad reads, “A dental clinic for sale in one of the most prestigious locations in the city! A central location with high signage value and heavy pedestrian traffic. Meticulously decorated with stylish and modern furniture. An opportunity not to be missed for investors and dentists!”

The advertisement for a hospital that is being put up for sale with its sub-sector operation in Ankara includes the following statements: “The hospital and its building, together with its operation and license, are for sub-sales. The property can be given if desired.” For a beauty center that is being sub-sold in Çanakkale, it says, “The most significant feature that makes our beauty salon valuable is that it has a prestigious history of 7 years and has been run professionally by a medical aesthetics physician for 7 years. Based on this, it has a potential customer portfolio. In other words, the person who will take over the business will start making money without difficulty and without losing time.”
