Expert warns: Eat 'tasting' meat for your heart health!

With Eid al-Adha coinciding with the hot summer days, an important warning came from Cardiology Specialist Prof. Dr. Bilal Boztosun.

Boztosun said, " Especially for those with heart and vascular disease, holiday tables can be risky. While fulfilling religious duties, do not ignore your health. Keeping meat consumption to a 'tasting' level is one of the most important steps to take to protect your heart health. In addition to meat, balancing your tables with various other foods will allow you to have a pleasant and healthy holiday. Remember, be selective for your heart this holiday ."

TASTE quantites should be preferred in meat consumption

Prof. Dr. Bilal Boztosun, who stated that health should be protected in addition to the spiritual value of the holiday, said, "Sacrifice is a very important act of worship for us. We should use these days without losing our health. If possible, let's prefer boiled meat consumption. Let's continue a balanced diet by increasing the consumption of small amounts of other vegetables and fruits. Since it is summer days, please do not neglect water intake. The pleasure we get while eating meat is important, but excessive consumption makes digestion difficult and negatively affects heart health."

"REST THE MEAT, INCREASE ITS TASTE"

Prof. Dr. Boztosun stated that consuming meat in a rested state is a better choice for health, and made the following statements:

"It is our custom to cook and eat meat that has been slaughtered immediately. However, this is not recommended for health reasons. As much as possible, we should eat meat that has been rested, or 'relaxed' so to speak. This both increases its taste and makes digestion easier."

Emphasizing that cardiovascular patients should be more careful, Prof. Dr. Boztosun said , "The amount of meat consumed should not be 'fullness' but 'tasting'. Especially if we are over a certain age and have cardiovascular disease, we should limit the amount of meat. We should stay away from heavy meals and definitely consume meat with vegetables and fibrous foods. In this way, we can spend these special days without losing both our health and the joy of the holiday."
