Drawing attention to the fact that ready-made ice creams sold in markets and grocery stores contain many additives to extend their shelf life and increase their consistency, Prof. Dr. Akgün said, “The preservatives and artificial sweeteners used in these products can cause attention deficit, distraction and behavioral disorders in children. They can also lead to allergic reactions.

"Scientific studies have also shown results in this direction. In ready-made ice creams, milk powder is used instead of milk and glucose syrup is used instead of natural sugar. Again, glucose syrup is used instead of natural sugar and thickeners are also added. These can have negative effects on children's health," he said.

Advising families, Prof. Dr. Akgün said, “My suggestion is to prefer ice creams that do not contain additives and are produced by reliable producers. Daily milk and natural sugar are used in these types of ice creams, and there are no preservatives or thickeners. It is also much better in terms of taste.

Families who have the means can also make ice cream at home with natural ingredients. The effects of additives in ready-made ice cream can be cumulative. Children can consume ready-made ice cream almost every day. This can lead to serious health problems in the long run. Therefore, it is very important for families to act more consciously on this issue,” he said.
