The death toll from the collapse of a five-storey building in Karachi, Pakistan, has risen to 27.

Authorities said search and rescue efforts were continuing in the rubble of a building that collapsed in Karachi on Friday, July 4, according to a report in the Dawn newspaper.

Authorities reported that the number of people who lost their lives had risen to 27, and noted that many people were still under the rubble.

A five-storey building in Karachi, built in 1974 and previously classified as "dangerous", collapsed on July 4.

An investigation was launched regarding the incident.

Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif expressed grief over the loss of lives.
