When will inflation be announced? Calculation of civil servant and pension salary increase according to 6-month inflation difference expectation
WHEN WILL INFLATION BE ANNOUNCED?

According to the official calendar of TÜİK, the June 2025 inflation data will be announced to the public on Thursday, July 3, 2025 at 10:00. With this data, the 6-month inflation rate covering the January-June period of 2025 will also be clarified. Thus, the salary increases to be made to civil servants and retirees in July will be determined.

WHY IS THE 6-MONTH INFLATION DIFFERENCE IMPORTANT?

Civil servant and retiree salaries are updated according to the inflation data announced by TÜİK in January and July of each year. If the increase rate determined in the collective agreement remains below the 6-month inflation, the difference is reflected in the salaries as the “inflation difference”. Therefore, June inflation plays a decisive role in the increase to be made to the salaries of civil servants and SSK-Bağ-Kur retirees.

HOW MUCH WAS THE INFLATION DIFFERENCE IN THE FIRST 5 MONTHS?

According to the data announced by TÜİK, the increase in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) in the first five months of 2025 was as follows: January: 5.03% February: 2.27% March: 2.46% April: 3.00% May: 1.53% According to this data, the total inflation for the first 5 months was approximately 15.09%. This rate will increase even more with the June data and the raise rate for civil servants and retirees will be finalized.

WHAT IS EXPECTED IN THE RATE OF INCREASE?

The Central Bank of Turkey published the June Market Participants Survey conducted with 69 participants consisting of real and financial sector representatives and professionals. Accordingly, the June CPI increase expectation, which was 1.77 percent last month, decreased to 1.61 percent in this survey period. The current year-end CPI increase expectation also decreased from 30.35 percent to 29.86 percent. According to economists' expectations, June inflation may be 1.61 percent. If this estimate comes true, 6-month inflation will be 16.95 percent.
