Four out of 10 young workers are unregistered

The deaths of three young women under the age of 18, who were turned into unregistered, precarious, and cheap labor in the fire that broke out at the perfume filling company called Ravive Kozmetik in the Dilovası district of Kocaeli, mirrored child labor in Turkey.
The fact that of the six workers who lost their lives in the fire, Nisanur Taşdemir was 15 years old, Tuğba Taşdemir was 17 years old, and Cansu Esatoğlu was 15 years old drew attention not only to child labor but also to unregistered employment.
TÜİK's household labor force statistics reveal the position of young people aged 15-19 in the labor force. According to TÜİK's second-quarter labor force statistics, 1,665,000 young people aged 15-19 are employed, while 281,000 are looking for work. Of these, 674,000 are employed informally.
While the rate of unregistered employment in total employment was 25.9 percent, it was determined that 40 percent of young people between the ages of 15 and 19 in employment were employed unregistered.
Considering that informal employment is around 8 million 464 thousand across the country, 8 out of every 100 people employed informally are in the 15-19 age group.
