Centennial School Revived in Fatih

Another restoration project that carries traces of the past to the future has been completed in Fatih, a historical district of Istanbul. Built in the 16th century by Hacı Ferhat Ağa and serving as the first educational institution for children for centuries, Hacı Ferhat Ağa Primary School was restored to its original state by Fatih Municipality and brought back to Istanbul.
The school, whose walls that were about to collapse were strengthened, whose collapsed walls and upper floor were rebuilt and made suitable for today's use, constitutes an important example in terms of preserving cultural heritage. The tomb of the founder Hacı Ferhat Ağa, located right next to the building, was also restored within the scope of the restoration, remaining faithful to its original architecture and passed on to future generations.
Loyalty to the legacy of ancestorsIn the works carried out, the architectural integrity of the school was preserved and it was made functional by taking into account today's needs. The original material details and construction techniques of the structure were applied in the restoration. With these works carried out by Fatih Municipality, in addition to the revival of historical structures, a cultural awareness is also being transferred to future generations.
Fatih Mayor M. Ergün Turan made the following statement regarding the restoration process: "Every step we take in Fatih is a reflection of our respect for our history. Hacı Ferhat Ağa Primary School is not just a structure; it is a symbol of the value our civilization gives to children and the respect it shows to science. It is our primary duty to follow the traces of our ancestors and revive these traces."
