36 billion lira road investment for earthquake housing

Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu announced that the majority of the roads providing access to disaster housing constructed following the February 6 earthquakes have been completed. Minister Uraloğlu stated that 237.4 kilometers of the total 370.5-kilometer road project has been completed. Minister Uraloğlu evaluated the road construction works initiated to ensure safe and uninterrupted access to disaster housing construction, which is continuing rapidly following the earthquakes centered in Kahramanmaraş. Minister Uraloğlu said, “We have designed a total of 370.5 kilometers of earthquake housing roads with a project cost of 36 billion Turkish Lira for 78,290 houses in 32 different locations in 8 provinces.” Noting that 23 billion Turkish Lira has been invested to date, Minister Uraloğlu said, “To date, we have completed 237.4 kilometers of earthquake housing connection and zoning roads in 8 provinces and opened them to traffic, and we are continuing work on the 133.1-kilometer road. We will open our roads simultaneously with the housing construction underway.” Providing information about the completed and ongoing sections of construction, Uraloğlu said in his statement: “23.4 kilometers of the 42.4-kilometer road in Osmaniye, 86.9 kilometers of the 117.8-kilometer road in Hatay, and 23.9 kilometers of the 42-kilometer road in Kahramanmaraş have been completed. 36.5 kilometers of the 45.4-kilometer earthquake housing road in Malatya, 21 kilometers of the 53.1-kilometer road in Şanlıurfa, 40.4 kilometers of the 55.5-kilometer road in Diyarbakır, and 5.3 kilometers of the 7.6-kilometer section in Kilis have been put into service. Work on the 6.7-kilometer section in Adana continues at full speed.” REPAIR OF DAMAGED ROADS Recalling that only 2 percent of the 9,176-kilometer road network in the earthquake zone, representing 184 kilometers, was damaged, Uraloğlu said, “98 percent of the road network in our 11 provinces was unaffected by the earthquake. We quickly repaired the damaged sections.” Minister Uraloğlu emphasized that thanks to the investments made, road transportation in the region has once again become safe, fast, and comfortable.
