Transformer explodes: No electricity across Northern Cyprus

In the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), electricity is out throughout the country due to the explosion of one of the main transformers.
According to information received from Cyprus Turkish Electricity Authority (Kıb-Tek) officials, an explosion occurred in the Güneşköy Transformer Centre, one of the main transformers, in the early hours of the morning.
Authorities announced that electricity was cut off across the country as of 5:00 a.m. due to the explosion.
If the faulty part can be separated from the system, the power plant will come online and some areas will be energized again.
Authorities did not provide information on when electricity would be restored to the TRNC.
