Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) announced the Birth Statistics for 2024. Accordingly, the number of babies born alive was 937 thousand 559 in 2024. 51.4 percent of the babies born alive were boys and 48.6 percent were girls.
Total fertility rate was 1.48 childrenThe total fertility rate is the average number of children a woman can have in the 15-49 age group, which is the period when she is fertile. The total fertility rate was 2.38 children in 2001, but has been on a downward trend since 2014, reaching 1.48 children in 2024. The total fertility rate has remained below the population replacement level of 2.10 for the last eight years. The province with the highest total fertility rate was Şanlıurfa with 3.28 children.

When the total fertility rate is examined according to the urban-rural classification, the total fertility rate in 2024 was 1.83 children in areas classified as rural, 1.58 children in areas classified as medium-dense urban and 1.39 children in areas classified as dense urban.

The adolescent fertility rate decreased from 49 per thousand in 2001 to 10 per thousand in 2024. In other words, there were 10 births per thousand women in the 15-19 age group in 2024.
The average time between a mother's last two births was 4.7 years in 2024
When the mother's "average time between the last two births" (2) is examined, this period was 4.6 years in 2019 and 4.7 years in 2024. The average time between the first birth and the second birth of mothers who gave birth in 2024 was 4.3 years. The average time between the second birth and the third birth of mothers who gave birth in 2024 was 5.4 years.
The province with the shortest average time between a mother's second and first birth was Şanlıurfa with 2.7 years.The province with the longest average time between the first birth of mothers giving birth to their second birth in 2024 was Kırklareli with 5.4 years in 2024. This province was followed by Çanakkale with 5.3 years, and Kütahya, Edirne, Uşak and Bartın with 5.1 years.
The province with the shortest average time between a mother's second and first birth was Şanlıurfa with 2.7 years in 2024. This province was followed by Şırnak with 2.9 years, Ağrı and Muş with 3.0 years.

The province with the highest average maternal age at first birth was Tunceli with 29.4When the average maternal age at first birth was examined by province, the province with the highest average maternal age at first birth in 2024 was Tunceli with 29.4 years. This province was followed by Artvin with 29.0 years and Istanbul with 28.8 years.
The provinces with the lowest average maternal age at first birth were Şanlıurfa and Muş with 24.4 years. These provinces were followed by Ağrı with 24.5 years and Gaziantep with 25.2 years.
3.3 percent of births were multiple birthsThe number of multiple births was 31,109 in 2024. While 3.3 percent of births in 2024 were multiple births, 97.0 percent of these births were twins, 2.9 percent were triplets, and 0.1 percent were quadruplets or more babies.
41.9 percent of births were mothers' first birthsWhen births were examined according to birth order, it was seen that in 2024, 41.9 percent of births would be first births, 30.3 percent would be second, 16.0 percent would be third, and 11.5 percent would be fourth or higher births.
