Smuggling operation in Istanbul: 36 million worth of smuggled goods seized

In operations conducted across the city between July 7-11 by teams from the Istanbul Police Department's Anti-Smuggling Branch, 339 coins dating back to the Islamic period were seized in Şişli; 10,700 liters of ethyl/methyl alcohol and 28,000 bottles of raw materials used in the production of counterfeit alcohol were seized in Başakşehir and Sultangazi; 10,800 mobile phone accessories were seized in Fatih; and 4,123,000 filled tubes, 630,000 empty tubes, 41,000 empty cigarette boxes, 4,000 full tubes, 750 packs of smuggled cigarettes, 780 kilograms of open shredded tobacco, two cigarette filling machines, and two compressors were seized in Pendik and Büyükçekmece.
Smuggled goods with a market value of approximately 36.6 million lira were seized. Three of the 10 suspects detained were released on probation, while four were arrested and sent to prison. Proceedings regarding the other three suspects are ongoing.
