It's not the end for Windows 10: Unexpected move from Microsoft

Microsoft has made an important decision change that closely concerns Windows 10 users. The company, which previously announced that it would completely end Windows 10 support for Microsoft 365 (Office) applications on October 14, 2025, has softened this policy. According to the new statement, Microsoft 365 applications will continue to receive security updates on Windows 10 until 2028.

OCTOBER 14, 2025: WINDOWS 10 SUPPORT ENDS, OFFICE UPDATES CONTINUE

The decision was quietly announced last week via an updated support page. Microsoft stated that it took this step specifically to ensure security would not be disrupted during the transition to Windows 11. However, there is one detail that is underlined: Windows 10's general support will end as planned on October 14, 2025.

While this decision provides great flexibility for corporate users, it also opens a new door for individual users. For the first time, users who want to stay on Windows 10 will be able to purchase paid security updates. In this context, individual users will pay $30 for 1 year of additional security, while corporate customers will be able to continue protecting their systems by paying for support packages extended for up to 3 years.

Although Microsoft has extended support for Office applications, it continues to encourage the transition to Windows 11. The company continues to emphasize the importance of switching to the new operating system for long-term performance and security.
