Gilgamesh Opera in Istanbul with its world premiere!
The Gilgamesh Opera, staged by the Istanbul State Opera and Ballet, will meet art lovers at the Atatürk Cultural Center Türk Telekom Opera Stage on May 17, 2025, within the scope of the 16th International Istanbul Opera and Ballet Festival.
An Epic Story Comes to the Stage
The work, performed with the composition of Ahmed Adnan Saygun, brings together the melodiousness of the East and the polyphony of the West. Shedding light on the ancient questions of humanity, the epic addresses the search for freedom and knowledge from a mystical perspective.
Technology and Stage Techniques Together
The opera is directed by Caner Akın, while the stage design combines technology and traditional stage techniques. The Istanbul State Opera and Ballet Orchestra will be conducted by İbrahim Yazıcı. The set design is by Efter Tunç, costume design by Gizem Betil, lighting design by Cem Yılmazer, video design by Aisha Hajiyeva, and choreography by Deniz Özaydın.
Cast and Performances
In the opera, Berk Dalkılıç and Hüseyin Likos will take on the role of the storyteller, while Alican Güçoğlu will give life to the character of Gilgameş. Yılmaz Berkay Günay will play the role of Enkidu, Aylin Ateş and Deniz Likos will play Ninsun, and Göktuğ Alpaşar and Burak Bilgili will play the role of Şamaş.
