Floods and landslides in Colombia: 5 dead
According to local media, two houses were destroyed in the floods and landslides caused by the heavy rain that has been going on for a while in the region, and many people from the same family were trapped under the rubble.
After a long work by fire crews, the lifeless bodies of 5 people were found.
Efforts are ongoing to find two people who went missing in the flood.
Many families were also affected by flooding in the Medellin, Envigado, Itagüi and Dagran regions.
Temporary shelters were established for evacuated citizens.
Sabaneta Mayor Alder Cruz said in a statement that it was not known how many people were trapped underground, adding, "Our aid organizations are working on this emergency. The bodies of five people, three women and two men, were taken to Venancio Diaz Diaz Hospital."
Antioquia Governor Andres Julian Rendon offered his condolences to the families of those who lost their lives.
