The bill prepared by AKP deputies will provide for a prison sentence of 1 to 3 years for drivers who leave the scene of traffic accidents that result in death or injury.

According to information received by AA correspondent, AKP deputies, under the leadership of Group Chairman Abdullah Güler and Group Deputy Chairman Bahadır Yenişehirlioğlu , completed the work on the bill, which also includes regulations regarding increasing administrative fines given to drivers who do not comply with traffic rules.

With the proposal expected to be submitted to the Presidency of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey this week, changes will be made to the Highway Traffic Law.

According to the proposal, administrative fines for those who speed excessively, violate red lights, change lanes incorrectly, and do not comply with turn rules will be increased.

Prison for fleeing the scene of an accident

The administrative fine imposed on those who leave the scene of traffic accidents involving material damage, death or injury without necessity will be increased to 46 thousand lira.

In addition, drivers who leave the scene of a traffic accident involving death or injury without permission unless necessary will be sentenced to imprisonment from 1 to 3 years, and their driver's licenses will be revoked for 2 years.

Fines for using mobile phones while driving are rising

The administrative fine imposed on drivers who use mobile phones and communication devices while driving will be increased to 5 thousand lira. In this context, if this rule is violated for the second time within 1 year from the date of the last violation, drivers will be given an administrative fine of 10 thousand lira.

In addition, if this rule is violated 3 or more times within 1 year from the date of the last violation, drivers will be given an administrative fine of 20 thousand liras each time, and their driver's licenses will be revoked for 30 days each time.

A fine of 40 thousand liras for driving without a license

Those who drive without a license will be fined 40 thousand lira, those who drive despite having a temporary license will be fined 20 thousand lira, and those who drive despite having a canceled license will be fined 200 thousand lira.

The proposal will also introduce regulations for the use of tachographs in freight and passenger vehicles and taximeters in taxis.
