97 people protesting Nureddin Yıldız at Boğaziçi University were detained

The Istanbul Governor's Office made a written statement regarding the incident. The statement said that 97 students were detained:
“On Tuesday, May 13, 2025, at around 20:45, a group gathered inside the Boğaziçi University North Campus and attacked the Rapid Response Force Branch Directorate teams to prevent the activities of a student club. 13 police officers were slightly injured as a result of the attack. During the incidents, a total of 97 protestors, 39 of whom were women and 58 were men, were detained. Necessary security measures were taken inside and around the university, and the procedures for the detained individuals are continuing at the police station.”
Theologian Nureddin Yıldız, in a program he attended in 2015, drew a huge backlash when he said, “There is no age limit in our sharia, Islam, regarding marriage. What does this mean? A child can get married before puberty. Marriages can also be held between children. Marriages can be held between adults and children. ”
Upon learning that the Islamic Studies Club (BİSAK) would host Nureddin Yıldız as part of the “Islamic Sciences: For Whom, How Much?” event at Boğaziçi University, many students reacted. Gathering in front of the North Pyramid on campus, students protested Yıldız being hosted at the university.
There was a scuffle between the police and the students. The students were detained with handcuffs behind their backs.
