Scientists have discovered that several types of bacteria contributed to the destruction of Napoleon Bonaparte's army in 1812, ABC reports.
Journalists noted that scientists were studying samples of soldiers' remains from a mass grave discovered in Vilnius 24 years ago.
It was eventually discovered that each of the 12 bodies was infected with Salmonella paratyphi type C and Borrelia relapsingii. These bacteria are transmitted by blood-sucking parasites, such as lice.
